A Reminder to All Committees:  It’s that time of year again and year end reports are due to the office no later than February 26, 2012.

Hospitalized:  Eloise Thatcher (Hearth & Home), Olive Lay (Van Wert), Phil McClure (home), Stephen Dailey (Cleveland Clinic), Reba Robey (home), Phyllis Myers (home), Marcia Darras (home), Milo Wyandt (home), Betty Wyandt (Van Wert), Eddy Miller (home), Jim Rhoades (home) and Val Davis (home).

Altar Flower Date Available:  If you are interested in providing the altar flowers for April 15, 2012 or December 30, 2012, please contact Martha Martin at 419-203-3395 or the church office at 419-238-6336.  All other dates are full but this date is open and needs filled.            Thank you,     Altar Guild

Just A Reminder:  at 10:00 on Sunday mornings (if there is choir) the children going to choir will be dismissed.  The children who are not involved in choir must stay in their Sunday School rooms with their teachers until the regular dismissal time of 10:15 a.m.  The children will either be picked up by their parent(s) or go to a place where the parent has told the children to meet them.  There have been too many children roaming the halls from 10:00 to 10:15 and disturbing other classes that don’t dismiss until 10:15.

            Thank you,                               Sunday School Department

St. Mark’s Walking Program:  As of December 31st, 2011 the total miles walked are 20,429.07!  Our goal is 238,857 to the moon!  That means we have 218,427.93 miles to go!  I received one persons mileage but I know there are more of you out there who are walking.  Please keep sending me those miles!    Meisa

Garage Sale Time:  Please start saving your “treasures” instead of dropping them off to a thrift shop.  St. Mark’s will once again participate in the US 127 garage sale.  All proceeds to benefit Kids Against Hunger Rice Kits.  No clothing items please.

Thank you to Pastor Will for his visits and prayers and also thanks to all who have prayed for me and sent me cards.  I hope to return to worship services as soon as I can.   God Bless you all,   David Linser

Mission Giving Opportunity:  As part of our support for Jenn Ditmyer, and her commitment to Tibet, we have committed to contribute $240.00 per month for one (1) year beginning the first Sunday of August, 2011.  The church will then match up to $240.00 by the mission fund of St. Mark’s.  This amount is over and above our regular giving.  There is a box located in the center aisle of the sanctuary for your contributions.  Cost is $5.00.  We need 12 people per week.  You must check the “I Worshiped Today” for your name to be in next week’s bulletin.

Jenn’s Apostles for February 12th, 2012:  Dick & Jo Kirkendall, Ken & Carol Doner, Frank & Reesa Rohrs and Roger & Linda Overholt.

Prepare to Die and Really Live:  “What if you were told that your time on earth was short?”  On Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, come and listen to Zach Bertsch who was diagnosed with Stage Four Colon Cancer in June of 2010 at the age of 27.  This cancer has no cure but does have chemo treatments available to prolong Zach’s life anywhere from 2-5 years.  Zach and his wife, Jenny, decided not to let the cancer win in terms of the impact on their lives.  Zach and Jenny’s prayer is that this cancer can be used by God to spread the gospel.  Come and be challenged and encouraged by Zach and Jenny’s story and learn how you can help Zach be “more than a conqueror’ of his cancer (Romans 8:37) www.cancerredemption.com.

Please Consider Your Pledge For The Capital Campaign:  Each friend and member of St. Mark’s should have received the mailing for the Capital Campaign this past week requesting your pledge in support of the 2012 Building Project.  As we prayerfully consider our pledge you are asked to remember that this project builds on our future.

“Building On Our Future Faith” is the theme for this campaign which provides areas for our congregation to grow and make a difference.  Each of us must decide our gift towards this goal which can be spread over a three-year time span.  Just $25 per month provides $900 towards our goal of $100,000.  A monthly pledge of $50 provides $1,800 towards that goal over the three-year pledge period.  Small amounts add up.  Even $5 per week will add up to $780 over the three-year period.  Please consider your pledge and return it in the envelope provided during the month of February.

Health Ministries—Winter Physical Activities For Families:  If your children are glued to the TV, encourage them to do jumping jacks, sit-ups and push-ups with you during commercials.  Then, let them choose some music, crank it up and dance away.  It’s a great way to burn calories.

Time to think about summer camps!  Yeah!!  Registration deadline is March 31st to get the $50 discount of registering online.  This MUST be done by the church office so payment can be made online while the registration is made.  The parent’s check, which is 20% of the total due but not to exceed $100, must accompany the registration form(s) to be registered.  Registration forms and camp info are available in the cloak room, elevator room and church office.  Take a look at www.lomocamps.org (Ohio) and www.lomik.org (Indiana) to get specific information on camps you are interested in attending.  Remember to register early for the discount to be taken off the total amount due.  If registered and paid in full by March 31st, your child will also receive a free camp t-shirt when they arrive to camp (this is for lomocamps only).  Questions?  Call the office at 419-238-6336.

The Outreach Committee is seeking input from the congregation regarding potential recipients of Outreach Funds for hunger programs locally, nationally and globally.  Suggestions can be made on the I Worshiped Today, to Chairperson Kathy Taylor or to the church office.  For national and global ideas, some suggested websites are (but not limited to):  www.elca.org/hunger, www.elca.org/disaster, www.elca.org/globalmission, www.lwr.org, & www.elca.org.  Funding is also available this year from an additional category of the Outreach Fund.  Funds from this additional category can be directed to, but not restricted from, non-food and water related projects.  Some of the ideas submitted so far include:  YWCA Summer Food Program, Cleft Palate Organizations like ‘Operation Smile’ and  ‘Smile Train’; supplies for Lutheran World Relief quilts & kits; Blessings in a Backpack, Kids Against Hunger—Rice Kits, elca.org/disaster and World Hunger.  What are your suggestions?

IMPORTANT TAX NOTICE:  To ensure the deductibility of your church contributions, do not file your 2011 income tax return until you have received a written acknowledgment of your contributions from the church.  Some of your contributions may not be tax-deductible if you file your tax return before receiving your giving information.

Join us in the Souper Bowl!  St. Mark’s Middle School Youth is once again holding a Souper Bowl Tournament to collect food items for Blessings In a Backpack.  During the month of February, we encourage you to help us by bringing in some food items. such as:  kid-friendly soups (chicken noodle, chicken and rice, vegetable, etc.), Chef Boyardee canned items, spaghettios, macaroni and cheese, fruit cups, individual cheese and crackers, etc.

CONGREGATIONAL CELEBRATION MEAL

On Sunday March 4, 2012 we will have our Celebration Meal for our Capital Campaign at 11:45 a.m. in the church fellowship hall.  The menu includes:

BBQ Pulled Pork                                 Cheesy Potatoes

Green Salad                                          Broccoli Salad

Chuck Wagon Beans                           Ice Cream & toppings

Come and have a great time of food, fun and fellowship together as a community of faith.  During the celebration meal we will give glory to God as the pledge total will be announced.

If you desire to donate a food item please contact Phyllis Davis or Juli Hamilton.  Mark your I Worshiped Today if you and/or a loved one is planning to attend

Volunteers Needed:  On behalf of Eileen Manken’s family (Ella and Jeremy Stoller, Kayla & Dan Stiles and Anita Zuber) we are compiling a list of willing volunteers who would be available to assist the family in supportive care as Eileen goes through a potentially long rehab/recovery program.  That supportive care would involve simply being available to sit by Eileen’s beside—to be a physical presence so to speak—thereby allowing her family to return to their jobs and maintain their own responsibilities as much as possible.

We are not sure at this point as to how much or how often someone will be needed, but if you would like to give of your time we will place your name in a data base with days and hours that are good for you and then call when we need a volunteer.  Please contact LeAnn, Kari or Alexis Stoller at the numbers listed below.

Thank you in advance for your gift of sacrificial love to Eileen and her family.      Gratefully Yours,

LeAnn Stoller 419-238-2845  rls7@embarqmail.com

Kari Stoller  419-605-2253  tjstoller@gmail.com

Alexis Stoller  419-605-5644  alexis.stoller@gmail.com
