Prepare to Die and Really Live: “What if you were told that
your time on earth was short?” On Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 7:00
p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Van Wert, come and listen to Zach
Bertsch who was diagnosed with Stage Four Colon Cancer in June of 2010 at
the age of 27. This cancer has no cure but does have chemo treatments
available to prolong Zach’s life anywhere from 2-5 years. Zach and his
wife, Jenny, decided not to let the cancer win in terms of the impact on
their lives. Zach and Jenny’s prayer is that this cancer can be used by God
to spread the gospel. Come and be challenged and encouraged by Zach and
Jenny’s story and learn how you can help Zach be “more than a conqueror’ of
his cancer (Romans 8:37) www.cancerredemption.com.
Please Consider Your Pledge
For The Capital Campaign: Each friend and member of St. Mark’s
should have received the mailing for the Capital Campaign this past week
requesting your pledge in support of the 2012 Building Project. As we
prayerfully consider our pledge you are asked to remember that this project
builds on our future.
“Building On
Our Future Faith” is the theme for this campaign which provides areas for
our congregation to grow and make a difference. Each of us must decide our
gift towards this goal which can be spread over a three-year time span.
Just $25 per month provides $900 towards our goal of $100,000. A monthly
pledge of $50 provides $1,800 towards that goal over the three-year pledge
period. Small amounts add up. Even $5 per week will add up to $780 over
the three-year period. Please consider your pledge and return it in the
envelope provided during the month of February.
Health Ministries—Winter Physical Activities For Families:
If your children are glued to the TV,
encourage them to do jumping jacks, sit-ups and push-ups with you during
commercials. Then, let them choose some music, crank it up and dance away.
It’s a great way to burn calories.
The Outreach Committee
is seeking input from the congregation regarding potential recipients
of Outreach Funds for hunger programs locally, nationally and globally.
Suggestions can be made on the I Worshiped Today, to Chairperson Kathy
Taylor or to the church office. For national and global ideas, some
suggested websites are (but not limited to):
www.elca.org/hunger,
www.elca.org/disaster,
www.elca.org/globalmission,
www.lwr.org, &
www.elca.org. Funding is also available this year from an additional
category of the Outreach Fund. Funds from this additional category can be
directed to, but not restricted from, non-food and water related projects.
Some of the ideas submitted so far include: YWCA Summer Food Program, Cleft
Palate Organizations like ‘Operation Smile’ and ‘Smile Train’; supplies for
Lutheran World Relief quilts & kits; Blessings in a Backpack, Kids Against
Hunger—Rice Kits, elca.org/disaster and World Hunger. What are your
suggestions?
IMPORTANT TAX NOTICE:

contributions, do not file your 2011 income tax return until you have
received a written acknowledgment of your contributions from the church.
Some of your contributions may not be tax-deductible if you file your tax
return before receiving your giving information.

Volunteers Needed: On behalf of
Eileen Manken’s family (Ella and Jeremy Stoller, Kayla & Dan Stiles and
Anita Zuber) we are compiling a list of willing volunteers who would be
available to assist the family in supportive care as Eileen goes through a
potentially long rehab/recovery program. That supportive care would involve
simply being available to sit by Eileen’s beside—to be a physical presence
so to speak—thereby allowing her family to return to their jobs and maintain
their own responsibilities as much as possible.
We are not sure at this point as to how much or how often
someone will be needed, but if you would like to give of your time we will
place your name in a data base with days and hours that are good for you and
then call when we need a volunteer. Please contact LeAnn, Kari or Alexis
Stoller at the numbers listed below.
Thank you in advance for your gift of sacrificial love to Eileen
and her family. Gratefully Yours,
